Soka Ikeda college of arts and science for women celebrated its 17th College Day on 24th February,2017. The Chief-guest of the day was Dr. V.Shanta, Chairman, Cancer Institute, women's Indian Association, Chennai. She was a proud Recipient of Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, and Magsaysay Award and guest of honor Dr. S.Thirumagan, Former controller of Examinations, University of Madras, Chennai.
Mrs. Kogilam Kumanan, welcomed the gathering and introduced the esteemed chief guest Dr. V.Shanta and guest of honor Dr. S.Thirumagan, Dr. Sethu Kumanan, Chairman honored the Nobel and tireless crusader Dr. V.Shanta with Manjula Srinivas Best woman Award for her 58 years of unflagging service to the Cancer Patients. Principal Dr. V. Renuka Devi presented the Annual Report on various activities of our college for the academic year 2016-2017. The Chief-guest of the day addressed the gathering and She said that as a woman we should never feel inferior to accomplish our goals. She called Dr. S. Muthulakshmi Reddy as a living history and praised her for her service to the society of cancer patients. She narrated the history of cancer institute and her role in the development of the cancer institute from a cottage hospital of 12 beds to a major comprehensive cancer center of National and International stature. She also quoted the words of Bharathiyar and Gandhiji to highlight the importance of freedom for women. She said that we should never forget such great personalities who strived to get freedom for women. Guest of honor Dr. S. Thirumagan addressed the gathering and he praised our principal Dr. V. Renuka Devi for educating women and also for rendering a responsible duty to the society of women. He exclaimed that Dr. V. Shanta, Chief Guest of the day is the first woman doctor and great mother to everyone in the world. He listed certain guidelines to the students to follow in their life to be a great and successful woman. He advised the students to respect their parents and teachers. He asked the students to improve their knowledge by visiting library regularly. He asked the students to follow the words of teachers in the class without any distractions.
Prizes were distributed to the students who excelled in their academics. Gold coins were given to the lecturers who supported the students to excel in their studies. The afternoon session was made more colorful with the cultural programme after the prize distribution ceremony.
A World Language Day was celebrated on 21/02/2017 by Dhvani language club of Soka Ikeda college of Arts and Science for Women. The Chief guest Mrs. Masako Maruyama from Japan and Special guests Mrs. Yunjoo kim and Mrs. Jinwon chun from Korea were invited for the function. The chief guest and the special guests were honoured by our Principle Dr. V.Renuka devi. A National integration song consists of 8 Indian languages Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Gujarati was sung by language club students. The following students from the language club gave speech on the topic importance of languages in their origin.

The Chief guest Mrs. Masako Maruyama gave the inaugural address. She shared about her life experience. She also encouraged the students to learn different languages. The special guests Mrs. Yunjoo kim and Mrs. Jinwon chun also addressed the gathering. They also shared their experience in Chennai and the importance of Korean language. Our chairman Dr. Sethu kumanan was also addressed the gathering. He shared a few words about Dr. Daisaku Ikeda and also his experience about the importance of languages during his visits to many world countries. He ended by wishing all the students. Our Principal advised the students to know about the importance of language and to learn it. The prizes were distributed for the winners of oratorical competition conducted by the language club to various language students.
The Department of Computer Applications conducted one day workshop on "Android Technologies" on 18th February, 2017 at the auditorium. Mrs. N.S.Kiruthika, the Head, Department of Computer Applications, rendered the welcome address and introduced the chief guest. The chief guest Mr. S.Sivagnanam, Managing Director, HIIQ Software Ltd., gave the inaugural address for the workshop. Principal Dr. V.Renuka Devi honoured the chief guest with a memento and addressed the gathering. He started his speech with the introduction to programming language. He also explained the scope and structure of Java programming which is the main language in developing Android applications. He discussed the working of the existing apps like filpkart, OLA and taught the students to create an Android app. He insisted the students to update everyday in the upcoming new technologies. He also asked to play Android games and use more apps to know the intricacies of the app. He recommended a book named “Headfirst” to learn Java programming. He ended his session by creating a good impact in students on developing Android applications. Students from many other colleges actively participated in the workshop. The valedictory function was conducted in the afternoon session. The chief guest Mr. Jerold Finny, Director, Alpha Matric Hr. Sec. School addressed the gathering. He discussed about the job openings for the students and insisted the students that "Always be ready for a big change". Mr. Jerold Finny distributed the certificates to the other college students who participated in the workshop. Various events were conducted by web-in association on 29.9.2016. The students who participated in the events were given prizes and certificates. The certificates of web designing course were also distributed to the students. The valedictory session came to an end with vote of thanks rendered by the Department Joint Secretary Ms. M.Manjula.

The Health club of Soka Ikeda college of Arts and Science for Women organized a workshop on “Healthy living” on 16.02.17 in the college auditorium. The Program was started with the prayer song and the workshop was inaugurated by The Principal Dr. V. Renuka Devi and the Vice Principal Mrs. Meera Murugesh. Around 34 students prepared 15 PPT presentations on various health topics like Prevention of Urinary tract infection and kidney stones, Awareness on wearing leggings and Jeggings, Importance of fermented rice, issues related to polycystic ovaries, importance of exercise and walking, ways to protect against UV radiations, awareness on over usage of internet and mobile phones, environmental pollutions and their causes on health, the causes of skipping breakfast and lifestyle and risk factors etc. The total students attended the workshop were around 300.

An extension activity “Sun Shines” - ஒளிரும் ஞாயிறு was organized for the Government Girls Higher Secondary School students on 10.02.2017 to promote good citizenship and social responsibility in and outside the campus. Through this outreach programme the department will be keen on monitoring the social activities place in the village ‘Gnayuru’.
The following activities were done for a period of 2 months:
• Our students enthusiastically taught about basic concepts in Adobe Photoshop for middle and Higher Secondary Students of Government Girls Higher Secondary School.
• To visualize the animation’s effect our students gave live examples for the students which made them very interactive and interesting.
• Tux Paint Concepts were also taught for the students.
• To promote entrepreneurship Jewellery making were trained to the women of the village.
Our helping hands continue its activity for the further development of the village.
17th Annual Sports Day of Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science held on 31st January, 2017. The programme began with the prayer song and welcome address by the Principal Dr.V.Renuka Devi. In the welcome address the Principal Dr.V.Renuka Devi introduced Mr. R.Sudhakar, I.P.S and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ambathur and Mr.BalaMurali, Inspector of Police, Korattur Station, Chief Guests for the day and esteemed gathering.Chief guests of the day hoisted the flag and graced the occasion with their presence. Mr. R.Sudhakar, I.P.S and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ambathur addressed the gathering and said that sports day is a day of celebration and a day that unites people for celebration and sharing of sameness. In his address he congratulated all the students for their active participation in sports. He said that the environment of sports becomes very competitive and challenging for the sportsmen and women and the sports men and women should focus on the challenges that come in their way. The chief guest took the salute of the impressive March Past of the Soka Ikeda College Students. Followed by the March Past, Olympic torch was lit. The students entered into the spirit of the occasion in a grand way with oath being administered by the special guest of the day.Mrs. K.PadmaPriya , Physical Directress presented the Annual Sports Report to the gathering.The afternoon session of the sports day started with the welcome address by Vice Principal Mrs.B.MeeraMurugesh. In her welcome note, she introduced the Guest of Honor Mr.M.V.Rajasekar, Recipient of Honorable Chief Minister Award from Govt of Tamil Nadu, IAAF-Athletics Coach and Special Guest Mrs.V.Jayalakshmi, Olympian Manager, Indian Bank Zonal Office. Guest of Honor Mr.M.V.Rajasekar, emphasized on the importance of sports in everyone’s life. He said that determination and continuous practice will bring success in life.
The inter college cultural festival organized by the college on 11th January, 2017 (Wednesday) is called ‘Vaagai 2016-2017’. The enthusiasm of the students led to the success of Vaagai, (a cultural fest) which received huge participation from various colleges in and around the city. The chief guests of the fest were Mr.S.P.Muthuraman, film director; Mr.S.Subramani, Managing Director of Tavron Engineers India pvt .ltd Chennai, Dr.V.Renuka Devi, the Principal; Dr.RaniChristhudhas, the Alumni Director; Mrs.MeeraMurugesh, the Vice Principal; Mrs.G.vijayaGirija,the college Union Advisory and the students Union Members 2016-2017 were present on the dais.The victory for women ‘Vaagai’ 2016-2017 started with the prayer song by the students and lighting of kuthuvilakku by the dignatries. Dr.V.Renuka Devi, in her welcome note addressed the gathering and introduced the chief guests of the day.In the inaugural address the legend Mr.S.P.Muthraman shared his experience in the field of cinematography. He quoted the words of eminent revolutionary poet Bharathiyar to make the students analyse their will power gained through education. He said that education is important with extra curricula’s and arts within us. He requested the students to showcase their talents in the world stage to identify India as the greatest country in the world, and wished all the students to shine well in life with good manners. With the inaugural address of Mr.S.P.Muthuraman ‘Vaagai’ hosted a variety of cultural events broadly split up into performing arts and fine arts like Solo Song, Solo Dance, Group Song, Ad-Zap, Folk Dance, Western Dance, Ramp Walk, Fashion Jewellery Making, Glass Painting, face painting, Nail Art, Newspaper Dressing for the students.
The judges for the events were Hemanth and team, dancers; Mrs.Mythili, SBOARtdH.M, Mrs. Padma Ramani, SBOA Music Teacher; Mr.Hari and Mr.sundar; Mrs. SangeethaMohanraj ,ICF School; Mrs.Sharmila Alexander. Students from various colleges actively participated in Vaagai 2016-2017.Valliammal College of Arts and Science bagged the winner prize worth Rs.7500 and Chevalier T.Thomas Elizabeth College for women bagged the runner prize worth Rs.5000.

Our Principal Dr. V.Renuka Devi said that, “We have assembled here to show our talents”. She asked the students to become entrepreneur and asked to bring talents hidden inside which brings income. She insisted the students to take up competitive exams and become government servants, become employee.
The Department of Computer Science conducted a Digital Workshop on “Ethical Hacking” in association with “LIVEWIRE”, Ambattur, Chennai on 28.01.2017. Resource Person Mr.Subash, Centre Manager, LIVEWIRE and Mr.Sujay, Faculty, LIVEWIRE conducted a workshop which will be opened online all over India on 28.01.2017, Saturday at 11.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. This session created an idea about the need for Ethical Hacking, why large organizations prefer ethical hackers. The main focus of the Lecture was to identify network security vulnerabilities and security holes before anyone could exploit. At present attackers are highly organized, skilled and motivated to make many business continue to fall victim to security attacks irrespective of various securities technologies. The objective is to strengthen the infrastructure by using the techniques of the hackers.
The 68th Republic Day was celebrated in all its solemnity and grandeur at Soka Ikeda College on 26th January, 2017. The chief guests were Dr. S.Kanchana, Principal and Mrs.Zarina, Nursing Tutor Omayal Aachi Nursing College, Chennai. The chief guests of day hoisted the National Flag and students saluted the National Flag. Principal Dr. V.Renuka Devi, inaugurated the programme and introduced the Chief Guests of the day to the gathering in her welcome note. Dr. S.Kanchana, Principal Omayal Aachi Nursing College, Chennai addressed the gathering and explained the benefits of a healthy diet. She urged the students to do their best and feel proud to be Indians. Followed by the chief guest address Mrs.Zarina, Nursing Tutor Omayal Aachi Nursing College, Chennai addressed the young gathering and shared her experience in the field of teaching. She also stressed that to be successful in life everyone should work hard. After Mrs.Zarina address, Mrs.Hemalatha a student from Tamil department gave a speech on Velu nachiyar. Chairman Dr. Sethu Kumanan’s congratulated Mrs.Hemalatha for her speech on Velu nachiyar.
An interdepartmental cultural fest ‘Kalakshya’ was organized by Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for Women on 12th January, 2017. The chief guest of the day were Mr. Dhamu, film personality and a comedian, Mr. Franklin, famous vijay TV Serial actor, Mr. Sathya, dancer, Mr. Kishore Kumar, film actor. In the inaugural address Mr. Dhamu highlighted the role of a teacher in crafling the students life with his lively talk he expressed the importance of education. He defined School as supreme conscious Holistic Operation on Listening.
Pongal is a harvest festival, a traditional occasion for giving thanks to nature. We celebrated Pongal on 12th January,2017 in the college campus. The Pongal was cooked in a new pot at auspicious time followed by the pooja. The students along with the lecturers performed Kummi Song immediately after pooja.

Global Harmony Day at Soka Ikeda college of Arts and Science for Women, was conducted on 2nd January 2017. She shared many real life experiences of Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy, Mr. R. Krishnamoorthy and Dr. V. Shanta of Cancer Institute, Adyar and also motivated the students to donate blood. The Chief Guest Dr. B. Narmadha, Blood Bank Medical Officer, Cancer Institute, Chennai was honoured by Dr. V. Renuka Devi, Principal, Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for Women. The pledge was read by Dr. V. Renuka Devi, Principal, Soka Ikeda College to the students. The chief guest address was given by Dr. B. Narmadha, Medical Officer, Cancer Institute, Chennai. She wished and encouraged the students for the blood donation. The special guest address was given by Mr. Y. Isaac Arul Kumar, district Health Educator, Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. He interacted with the students about the importance of blood donation. Guest of honour address was given by Mr. M.A. Rajendran, Non-Medical Supervisor, Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. He encouraged and motivated the students. Dr. Sethu Kumanan, Chairman, Soka Ikeda College motivated the students. Blood donation camp were conducted from 10.30 am to 4.00 pm. Many students came forward to donate their blood out of which 77 units of blood were collected.
Our College Athletic Team players has won the Runners-Up Place in the 49th A.L Mudaliar Athletic Meet which was organised by University of Madras, Department of Physical Education, held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium from
13-12-2016 to 15-12-2016.

சோகா இகெதா கலை மற்றும் அறிவியல் மகளிர் கல்லூரியின் தமிழ்த்துறை சார்பாக பாரதியார் விழா 09.12.2016 அன்று கல்லூரி கலையரங்கில் நடைபெற்றது. விழாவில் சிறப்பு விருந்தினராக திரு இசைக்கவி ரமணன் அவர்கள் கலந்து கொண்டு சிறப்புரை வழங்கினார். ஆவடி எழில் இலக்கியப் பேரவையின் தலைவர் திருக்குறள் ஆய்வுச் செம்மல் முனைவர் எழில் சோம. பொன்னுசாமி அவர்கள், கல்லூரியின் தலைவர் டாக்டர் சேது குமணன், கல்லூரியின் முதல்வர் முனைவர் வ. ரேணுகாதேவி, தமிழ்த்துறைத் தலைவர் பேராசிரியர் சே. கண்மணி, தமிழ்த்துறைப் பேராசிரியர்கள், பள்ளிகளைச் சேர்ந்த தமிழாசிரியர்கள் மற்றும் பள்ளி மாணவ மாணாக்கியர்கள் கலந்து கொண்டு விழாவினைச் சிறப்பித்தனர். சிறப்பு விருந்தினர் பேசும்பொழுது பாரதியார் பெண்களுக்காகவும் பெண்ணுரிமைக்காகவும் போராடியதை எடுத்துக் கூறினார். கல்லூரி முதல்வர் பேசும்பொழுது பாரதியார் என்றாலே வீரம் தான் நினைவிற்கு வருவதாகவும், பெண்களாகிய நாமும் அத்தகைய வீரத்துடன் திகழ வேண்டும் என்றும் கூறினார். கல்லூரித் தலைவர் பேசும்பொழுது பெண்கள் மதிக்கப்படவேண்டும், தாய்மையைப் போற்ற வேண்டும் என்ற நோக்கோடு தான் தங்கள் கல்லூரியில் இகெதா அவர்கள் எழுதிய அம்மா கவிதை தினமும் பாடப்படுவதாகக் கூறினார். தொடர்ந்து பாரதியார் விழா போட்டிகளில் வெற்றிபெற்ற மாணவர்களுக்குப் பரிசுகளும், சான்றிதழ்களும் வழங்கப்பட்டன.
The Department of Human Resource Management organized an one day workshop on Innovation and Entrepreneurial Development on 3rd Dec 2016. The special speakers were Dr. Umarani Professor & Dean Department of Management Studies Saveetha Engineering College, Dr. Jayam Professor & Head Department of MBA DR. MGR University, Dr. Sivachandher Professor, Department of BBA, Loyola college. They quoted the examples of successful Entrepreneurs in the field of Indian economy. The workshop was informative and prolific to all the participants.In the afternoon session, the special guests V. Samuel Lakeview, G. Timothy Xpressions , Gurunathan Entrepreneur Nimbus solutions were conducted the workshop on New ventures, panel on entrepreneurs. It was an interactive session with the case study on opportunities for Entrepreneurship. Each member in the panel have discussed the business viability and challenges of Entrepreneurs.

சோகா இகெதா கலை மற்றும் அறிவியல் மகளிர்; கல்லூரியின் தமிழ்த்துறை சார்பாக பள்ளிகளுக்கிடையேயான போட்டிகள் 28.11.2016 அன்று நடைபெற்றது. விழாவில் சிறப்பு விருந்தினராக விஜயந்தா மாதிரி மேல்நிலைப்பள்ளியின் முதல்வர் திரு.மி. ஜேம்ஸ் கலந்து கொண்டு சிறப்புரை ஆற்றினார்;. இவ்விழாவில் கல்லூரியின் செயலர்; திருமதி கோகிலம் குமணன் கல்வி ஆலோசகர் திருமதி பா. இரஞ்சிதகனி கல்லூரியின் முதல்வர் முனைவர்; வ. ரேணுகாதேவி தமிழ்த்துறைத் தலைவர் பேராசிரியர்; சே. கண்மணி தமிழ்த்துறைப் பேராசிரியர்;கள் பள்ளிகளைச் சேர்ந்த தமிழாசிரியர்கள் மற்றும் பள்ளி மாணவ மாணாக்கியர்கள் கலந்து கொண்டு விழாவினைச் சிறப்பித்தனர்;. எஸ்.பி.ஏ.ஓ பள்ளியின் முதுநிலை தமிழாசிரியர் திருமதி ஜெயலட்சமி கல்யாணராமன் பேசும்பொழுது ஆசிரியர்; பணியின் சிறப்பினை எடுத்துரைத்தார். பள்ளிகளைச் சேர்;ந்த முதுநிலை தமிழாசிரியர்;களுக்குத் தமிழ்த்துறைச் சார்பாக விருதுகளும் சான்றிதழ்களும் வழங்கப்பட்டன. பேச்சுப்போட்டி பாட்டுப்போட்டி உள்ளிட்ட 12 போட்டிகள் நடத்தபெற்றன. 11 பள்ளிகளைச் சேர்;ந்த 176 மாணவ மாணாக்கியர்;கள் கலந்து கொண்டனர்;. பரிசு பெற்றவர்;களின் பெயர்;கள் விழாவில் அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது. பரிசு பெற்றவர்;களுக்கு 09.12.2016 அன்று நடைபெறவுள்ள பாரதியார்; விழாவில் பரிசுகள் அளிக்கப்படும்.
Tamilnadu Federation of Women Lawyers and Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development organized a one day legal awareness program at Soka Ikeda College of arts and Science for Women on 25th November 2016. Presidential address was given by Ms. K. Santhakumari, President, TNFWL. In her address she insisted about the importance of laws. The inaugural address of Honourable Ms. M. Pitchammal, Chairman, District Judge, Permanent Lok Adalat, Tiruvallur. She informed the students about the awareness of the laws. Ms. G. Thilakavathy, I.P.S., former Director General of Police, rendered the Special address. Ms. E. Sumathy, Joint Secretary, TNFWL proposed vote of thanks. Session I resumed with the Speech of Ms. Parvathi Srinivasan, Advocate, High Court , Madras on Crimes against Women. Her Speech was followed by the address of Ms. Sumithra Chakkaravathi, Advocate, High Court, Madras on Domestic Violence Act. Her speech was followed by the address of Ms. Adilakshmi Logamurthy, Advocate, High Court, Madras on Dowry Prohibition Act. The session dissolved for lunch break. Afternoon session begin with the debate on the topic “Todays Media Are Supportive To The Progress Of Women Or Impediment”. The Debate was conducted and judged by Kalaimamani Dr. Seyon, former Director, All India Radio, Chennai. Valedictory session began with the address by Ms. Rita Chandrasekar, Vice President, TNFWL. Her speech was followed by the valedictory address of Ms. G. Saraswathi, Secretary ,Sub Judge, District Legal Services Authority, Tiruvallur. Certificate was distributed to all the students who attended the program.

Our principal madam Dr. V.Renuka Devi, gave the welcome address for the chief guest Mr. M.Karnan co-ordinator, Disaster Management and special guest Mr. Lawrence, resource person. Then the Chief guest Mr. M.Karnan co-ordinator, Disaster Management address the audience and gave information about the disaster management, in which he shared his experience during the Chennai flood 2015. He mentioned that the term Disaster Management is “how to tackle a situation with available resources. He also provides information that only two agencies are called during emergencies (i.e) NDRF, Fire rescue team. During the disaster major preference is given to the senior citizens, pregnant ladies and small children. The disaster management involves the following operations or departments search Rescue team, conducting training, identification of beneficiaries, providing pure and safe drinking water, shelter during emergencies, relocating families separated, provide psychological advice conducting camp and also awareness programme. The features are unpredictability, unfamiliarity speed, uncertainity, threat. In the afternoon session students were assembled in basketball court and demonstration were conducted regarding the usage of fire Extinguisher. Guidance were given to the student on the topic “How to prevent themselves from fire”.

On 17.10.2016 the MSW department conducted Pink Parade in collaboration with India Turns Pink Organization. More than 1500 Students and 100 Staff members took part in the Pink Parade. Through that we created awareness on Breast Cancer. Students participated in the parade by holding the pluck cards enunciating Breast Cancer awareness slogans. The chief guest from ITP Ms. Latha addressed the students on breast cancer awareness and self breast examination. Finally the students along with staff members taken oath to create a Breast Cancer free India by 2030.
A National conference on Bibliotherapy and webotherapy for women was conducted in our college. It was honoured by the chief guest Dr. Abilasha, Women celebrity psychologist, and she spoke about the Information Literacy on Bibliotherapy and webotherapy for women. The occasion was graced by Prof. S.Parthasarathy, Former Director, Indian National Scientific Documentation Centre, New delhi, Who is stepping into his 100th birthday. In the Key note address Dr. P.Kanagavel, Additional Director and Head, National Institute of Wind Energy, ministry of new and Renewal Energy, Govt. of India, spoke about "how a book plays an important role in everyone's life".
Dr. L.Uma, Assistant Librarian, Anna university, Chennai in her special address spoke about the empowerment of women.The Technical session was started with a Resource person Dr.K.Sangeetha,Librarian,Highways Reasearch station and secretary of Madras Library Association.The valedictory session was conducted in the presence of Prof.R.Moorthy,Former Professor,Department of History,Thayagaraya college, chennai.
On 2nd September Teacher’s day was celebrated in Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science. Our chief guest was management members Principal Dr. V.Renuka devi, Director Dr. Rani Christu Dhass, Vice principal Mrs. B.Meera Murugesh, Council secretary Mrs. M.Vijayasumathi and union advisory Mrs. G.Vijaya Girija on the dais. The function was celebrated with various cultural programs and it ended with our principal mam wishes for teacher’s day.
The Onam celebration programme was celebrated at 9.30 a.m. on 12-09-2016 in Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for Women. The Program started with the prayer song followed by the Onam Wishes given by Mrs. S. Usha Devi, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce and Ms. Nisha, I year Student from the Department of Commerce. Then we had the Cultural Programmes like Onam Song, Mohini Attam and Kaikotti Kali Dance. Ms. A. Shameem Nisha, Assistant Professor, Department of Tamil give away the message about Bakrid and conveyed the wishes to the students and staffs. Off-stage events like Athapookolam and Cooking without fire were also conducted on the same day.
Our college volleyball team players won the Shri krishnasamy Memorial Inter-Collegiate Tournament, which is organized by Shrikrishnasamy College held on 19/08/2016. Our students won the winner-up trophy.
Our college team players won the 3rd place in the Sethammab Rolling Trophy Volleyball Tournament, which is organized by DRBCC Hindu college.
Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for Women, Chennai , the Department of Social Work conducted various activities on 15th August and 21st August as a part of “Azadi 70 – Yaad Karo Kurbani” (Freedom fortnight) Independence Week celebration. The event was to implant the spirit of freedom struggle and national movement among the younger generation. Mass recitation of Oath by all the staff and students of Shift II was organized on 23rd August by 1.30pm at college auditorium. Paintings were done on the theme “Freedom” was also outperformed on the same day between 4pm and 6pm on 21st August. An Essay writing was conducted under the theme “Mother India and her glory”. The students creatively made greeting cards in tribute to the officers who struggle at the borders. The Students performed a small skit that showcased the proud feeling of being an Indian, and displayed the sufferings and struggles of every border security policemen where their families are left alone in expectations of their arrival. A Classical Music Performance was presented by the Students enthusiastically. Many Students participated in Poem writing.
Madras university Inter-zone cross country race competition was held at Pachaiyappa's college, Kanchipuram on 16-08-2016. They secured five places out of six places. Our college has won overall championship winners.
Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for Women. The ceremony started at 07.45 AM in the college premises. Ms. Narmatha Sampath, Advocate, Madras High Court, Chennai hoisted the tricolour flag. In her speech by quoting the life of Sri Aurobindo and Dr. Daisaku Ikeda she insisted the students to serve mankind. She shed light on the Indian Constitution by saying how the constitution helps to preserve women’s empowerment in economic, political and social issues.

The Induction ceremony of the 17th batch of students cum installation of office bearers were made a grand celebration with the inauguration of new course, B.Sc physics with computer applications and English language lab. The chief guests of the function were Mr. C. Rajendran, IAS (Retired) and Dr. K. Chitra, Associate Professor (Retired), Department of physics, Bharathi Arts and Science college, Chennai. Mr. C. Rajendran, IAS (Retired), initiated the college union activities for the academic year 2016-2017. He insisted in his speech that students should strive to achieve success through self-confidence and motivation.
Dr. K. Chitra, in her inaugural address, stressed on the four quarters of education such as Parents, Guru, Institution and Society. She said that the four quarters of education can transform the students to be a good citizen in the society.
The two days freshers sports meet of Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for Women took place on the 20th and 21st of July 2016. The dignitaries for the Inaugural function of this sports meet were college Vice-Principal Ms. B. Meera Murugesh and the Shift II co-ordinator and the Head, Department of Tamil Ms. S. Kanmani. The Inaugural Function commenced on 20th July at 10.00 in the morning with a prayer song. The college sports Secretary V. Ranjitha of III B. A. Tamil delivered the welcome address. The college's Physical Directress Ms. K. Padma Priya honoured the chief guest, Ms. B. Meera Murugesh, the Vice-Principal. In her Inaugural speech she emphasized the necessity of physical education and stressed on the physical fitness of the students. She also expressed how our college is giving more importance to the students extra curricular activities and their fitness. She also congratulated the Physical Directress for her effort in guiding the students.
AIDS Awareness Programme was conducted for the final year students on 19.07.2016. Fifteen volunteers from Arizona University and five volunteers from Madras school of social work visited our college and interacted with the final year students to create awareness on AIDS. They were directed by the project director Mr. Arul Raj Louis and field officer G.Sheema from IAPA. Interaction session was arranged by part V co-ordinators of the college. The students were divided into two batches and were informed of the topical discussion by the team members. All the necessary information regarding the terms HIV/AIDS and the fatality of AIDS were taught in detail by the members. The ratio of affected people and the modes of spread and the means to prevent were explained in detail.
Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for Women organized a Special Lecture on the topic "CRUSH STRESS & RUSH TO SUCCESS" on 8th July, 2016, in the college auditorium. This programme was organized jointly by the Centre for Women Studies and the Health Club of the college. Dr. Madhvi Diya Rughoo, Consultant Psychiatrist, Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital, Mauritius, was the resource person. She dealt in detail on the topic and enlightened the students on psychological well-being, the need for a little stress and listed practical techniques on how to control stress.
Fresher's Day programme – a special welcome function was arranged by the management of Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for Women on 20th June 2016 for it’s freshers of the academic year 2016-2017. Keynote address was made by Dr.A. Mathivanan, Advocate, Higher education Consultant and former Assistant director of Collegiate Education, Chennai. The other special guests were Mr.S.P.P.Selva Kumar,principal of Sethu Bhaskara Matriculation Higher secondary school and Ms.Fatima Julian, Principal of Satheesh Balaji Matriculation Higher Secondary School.
The investiture ceremony, union valediction and women's day celebration were jointly observed on the 8th of March, 2016. Principal madam, Dr. V. Renuka Devi briefed the audience about the commendable academic achievements of the Chief Guest Dr. Tamil Selvi and spoke highly of her humility. She introduced Dr. Sampath Kumar, Professor and Head of the Department of Telugu, University of Madras and lauded his scholastic contribution, particularly acknowledging his poetic works. The investiture ceremony was done by Principal madam, who handed over the lighted candles from the former union members to the newly elected union members as a sign of transferring responsibilities to the elected representatives. Dr. Tamil Selvi addressed the gathering and held them spellbound with her unconventional ideas on women empowerment and emancipation. She emphasized on the need for women to not be weighed down by challenges but to learn to beat the odds and rise above them.
A two days seminar on the ethical values of thirukkural was conducted in Soka Ikeda college of Arts and Science for women. Dr. K.Mohanarasu, Founder of World Thirukkural center was the chief resource person. The paper presentations of the workshop was compiled as a book and it was released be college principal Dr.V. Renuka Devi and Dr.Sethu kumanan received the first copy of it. The Six session of the seminar were engaged by eminent scalars of Thirukkural studies. On the second of the seminar (02.03.2016) Prof. Dr.N. Sakthivelu gave a Special address and prizes were given to students who performed cultural events in the Valluvar kottam Thirukkural Conference, by the chairman. The Seminar thus ended with great significance.
The Department of Computer Science organized 2nd State Level Workshop on "CAMPUS CONNECT" in association with Livewire, Ambattur, Chennai on 27th February, 2016. The workshop was inaugurated by Mrs. Bonika Saraswathi, Trainer (HR) Consultant, Mr. K. Khaja Mohideen, Head & Asst. Professor, Department of MCA, Aalim Muhammed Salegh College of Engineering, Mr. Murugan, Centre Head, Livewire, and Mr. Subhash, Centre Manager, Livewire, Ambattur. The First session, "Interview Skill Development" was handled by the Chief Guest, Mrs. Bonika Saraswathi, Trainer (HR) Consultant. She discussed about how to face interviews, about corporate and Women empowerment. The Second session, "Genesis of Web and Java Application Development" was handled by the resource persons, Mr. K. Khaja Mohideen, Head & Asst. Professor, Department of MCA, Aalim Muhammed Salegh College of Engineering and Ms. Afshia Nasrin, Asst. Professor, Department of MCA, Aalim Muhammed Salegh College of Engineering, Chennai. The Third Session, "Java Hands on Training" was handled by the resource person, Mr. Syed Younus Ahmed, Asst. Professor, Department of MCA, Aalim Muhammed Salegh College of Engineering, Chennai. He explained the features of Java, about its applications. The Fourth session, "Get Known to Employability" was handled by the resource person, Mr. Y. Rabik, Asst. Professor, Department of MCA, Aalim Muhammed Salegh College of Engineering, Chennai. Mrs. V. Jayalakshmi, Head Mistress, Government Higher Secondary School, Gnayaru was the chief guest of valedictory function. Mr. Murugan, Centre Head, Livewire, and Mr. Subhash, Centre Manager, Livewire, Ambattur, sponsored Rs. 3500/- for blackboards and gifted two computers to Mrs. V. Jayalakshmi, Head Mistress, Government Higher Secondary School, Gnayaru. Our Chief Guest distributed Livewire Certificates for the networking courses, COMPTIA N+ and CCNA, Association Certificates and Workshop Certificates for the students.
The 16th College Day function of Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for Women was celebrated on the 25th of February 2016 in the College at 4 P.M. The programme began with a prayer song and Principal Dr. V.Renuka Devi’s welcome address.Chairman Dr.Sethu Kumanan in his Presidential address stated the importance of the 16TH year and conveyed his wishes. The Chief Guest was Dr.Sivakami Gopinath, Senior Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, SRM Institutes for Medical Sciences,Chennai. She presented a special speech on the psychosomatic disorders of women and the related health issues .Guest of Honour Mrs.Nallini Olivannan,B.L.,Chief Operations,Emerald Publishers, Chennai, spoke on the ‘situational awareness’ that students should have in exploring the opportunities and challenges present for them. Ms.S.Kalaivani, Managing Trustee of Life Trust was awarded MANJULA SRINIVAS BEST WOMAN AWARD for her highly humanitarian services in cremating the dead destitute and unclaimed corpses. Proficiency prizes were given to students for excelling in their university exams. Principal Dr.V.Renuka Devi read the college’s annual report with a PPT.A tableau presented the well known women in the history of India. A few performances of group dances were followed by an English play, Tamil play and a Japanese play. Student's Union President Ms.K.Ramya gave the Vote of Thanks and the function got concluded.
The 13th Graduation Ceremony of Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for Women took place on the 25th of February 2016.The Chief Guest was Dr.M.D.Tiwari,Dphil.,D.Sc.,Vice Chancellorof Barkatullah University,Bhopal.The ceremony began at 9.15 A.M. with Thamizh Thaai Vaazhthu and welcome address by the Principal Dr.V.Renuka Devi.The Chief Guest Dr.M.D.Tiwari in his Convocation Address said that the percentage of women’s education has raised whereas the quality of it is still remains a question.This should be changed by the joint effort of the graduating women.Special Guest Dr.Akash K.Ouchi conveyed the wishes of Dr.Daisaku Ikeda from Japan for all the graduates and their parents.He also read the special message sent by him exhorting the students to live an elevated life as a Ikedian. Dr.Akash K.Ouchi released the COLLEGE Nostalgia which was received by students. Atotal number of 384 graduates received their degrees of various streams and 23 students received Endowment Prizes.
Kalakshya’16, an Inter-Departmental cultural fest on the theme Indian Epics and Culture, was organised by the college on the 17th and 18th of February 2016. All the On-stage events like dance, singing and fashion show was conducted on 17th February. All the departments actively participated in the event. The participants performed on stage amidst loud cheers from their classmates and friends. Dr. M. Preethi Mohan, recipient of Kala Thilagam Award, an honour from the Government of Kerala, and Asst Professor, Department of Economics, Bharathi Women’s College, Chennai was the Chief Guest for the occasion.
The Off-stage events of Kalakshya’16 were conducted on 18th February. Our students displayed their skill through Rangoli, Bridal Makeup, Vegetable Carving, Pencil Art and Multiple Maraca. The Overall Championship was won by the Commerce department. They received a cash award of Rs. 15,000/-. The second prize, a cash award of Rs. 10,000/- was won by M.A. HRM. The third prize, Rs. 5000/- was won by B.B.A. department.
Vaagai'16, an intercollegiate cultural fest was organised by the college on 16th of February 2016. Mr. D.S.R. Subash, State President, Tamilnadu Press Union was the chief guest for the occasion. Around 50 students from various colleges participated in the events and won prizes. The overall championship was won by CTTE College, Chennai and a cash prize of Rs. 25,000 was awarded to them. The second prize, a cash award of Rs.15,000 won by St. Anne’s College, Chennai. R.B. Gothi Jain College, Chennai won the third prize, Rs.5000. Our college students performed a welcome dance and gave many host performances amidst a loud applause and entertained the participants.
The Department of Mathematics organised a National Seminar on Recent Trends in Linear Programming on 15th February, 2016. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Dr. Mrs. Rita Malhotra, Principal, Kamala Nehru College, University of New Delhi.
The Indo-Japan Academic Exchange and Cultural Confluence took place on the 13th of February, 2016. Cultural confluence is a unique opportunity available to the students of our college. It enables them to understand the Japanese culture by interacting with students from Japan. This year, 10 Japanese students from Soka University, Japan, visited the college with Mr. Tora Akahane, International Affairs officer. Fruitful interaction and colorful cultural events characterized the day.
The Department of Mathematics organised a workshop on SPSS Package for the Post Graduate and Research Students of the Department. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Dr. Nancy Lesley, Asst. Professor, Presidency College, Chennai.
The Department of Tamil conducted a Diploma Course in Kamba Ramayana. The Chief Guest for the inauguration of the course was Mr.M.P.Arunachalam, Founder, Ambattur Kamban Kazhagam, and the Guests of Honor were Mr. Pallathur Palaniyappan, President, Ambattur Kamban Kazhagam and Poet. Devadas, Course Instructor, Ambattur Kamban Kazhagam.
The Department of Tamil organised a workshop on Assistive Technology on 6th February, 2016. Mr.P.Kannan, Administrative Officer, New India Assurance, Chennai, Mr. Vinoth Benjamin Rajan, HR Manager, MNC, Chennai and Mrs. B. Aruna Devi, Asst.Revenue Officer, Revenue Department, Chennai were the special guests present for the occasion.
The students of Tamil Department participated in Thirukkural Seminar in Valluvarkottam on 11th July, 2015 and in a seminar conducted by Ullaga Thirukkural Maiyam, on 29th August, 2015 and participated in the Kamban Vizha at Ambattur Kamban Kazagam, on 30th January, 2016.
The Department of BBA organised a workshop on Women Entrepreneurship and Awareness on unethical upshots in Business on 29th January, 2016 and the Resource persons were Ms. R.R. Sandhya, Sandy’s Creation Jewellery and D’lite by Sandy’s and Ms. R. Tamil Chudar, Chudar Eye Care, Chennai.
Two students from Soka University, Japan come and study in Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for Women for one Semester under the Academic Exchange Programme with the Soka University. This year Ms. Sachie Ido and Ms. Misako Ichikawa studied in the English and Social Works department respectively. A farewell was organized by the Union on the 28th of January, 2016 for them. Staff and Students shared their feedback about them. The Japanese students expressed their desire to come back to our college and said they would cherish every moment of their stay here. The emotion-filled moment came to an end with profuse tears and heartfelt love.
Voter's day was celebrated by the Union on 25th January, 2016 with the aim of creating awareness among students regarding this democratic duty. The students took oath in unison to fulfill their responsibility by voting. A poem titled Vaakalar Thinam was read out by our student Ms. A. Steffie Craf of II M.A. Tamil. A Drama was also staged to create awareness on Voting. The officials from Thiruvallur Collectrate, who were present for the occasion, greatly appreciated their efforts.
The Department of Biochemistry organised a State level Workshop on Clinical Diagnosis and Evaluation of Leukemia on 09th January, 2016. More than 120 students participated and the Resource persons were Dr. R. Vijayalakshmi – Preventive Oncology, Department of Cancer Institute, Chennai and Dr. N.V. Hemamalini, Medical Officer in-charge, Saveetha Medical College, Chennai.
Margazhi Utsav was celebrated for the second consecutive year in a typical manner. Thiruppavai was sung every morning and the meaning of the song was explained. Pancharathna Keerthana and Thiruvenpavai were sung on 4th January, 2016 by the Carnatic singers of the college.
An International conference on SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY, ETHICS AND SUSTAINABILITY – A CONTEXT OF SOKA EDUCATION was held in Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for women. Being a two day conference (27th and 28th January),the first day of the conference began with the principal Dr.V.Renuka Devi’s welcome address and the presidential address of the Secretary Mrs.Kogilam Kumanan. Following this Mr.Richard Yoshimachi, President and Executive Director, Ikeda Centre for Peace, Learning and Dialogue,Cambridge, USA made an oration on “Social responsibility in Soka Education” stating that Soka dialogues transcend all religions and are aimed at empowering the student community.
Following this was a talk by Mr.Vishesh Gupta, Chairperson of Bharat Soka Gakkai. He quoted on the importance of “Soka Gakkai Day” observed on January 26th of every year on which Dr.Ikeda sends a peace proposal to the UNO. Speaking in line with this Dr.Akash K.Ouchi, Representative in India, Soka Gakkai International said that unity, courage and empowerment would work together to make ‘humanity” withstand for another millennium.
Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for Women had a grand 67th Republic Day Celebration of the Nation. College Principal Dr. V. Renuka Devi, Secretary Mrs. Kogilam Kumanan, Psychiatrist Ms. Durga and Master Ranjan were on the dias. Mr. Samuel Selvaraj, Rtd. Assistant Commissioner was the chief guest to hoist the National Flag and to deliver the special address. He made an emotive speech, emulating the youth to play the role of a good citizen in safeguarding and upgrading the nation. Guest of Honour, Mr. R. Sirdhar, Senior Manager in New Indian Express encouraged the students to fix their goal and to work on it. He greatly appreciated the talent show of the little kids of the college staff, which was regale making the day a very special one.
The Department of Computer Applications organised one day Workshop on cyber crime on 22.01.2016 with the idea to disseminate knowledge on different forms of cybercrime, to create more awareness about the emerging kinds of cybercrimes and various methods to protect victims from cybercrimes and teach cyber safety and protection guidelines to the students in this digital and mobile ecosystem. Nearly 415 students from various colleges in and around Chennai were benefited on this workshop. The session started with the Prayer song followed by the welcome address given by the Principal Dr V. Renuka Devi. The Principal in her address welcomed and introduced the Chief guest Dr.C.Sylendar Babu I.P.S., Additional Director General of Police, Coastal Security and other guest of honor Dr.R.Thilagaraj,Director (Academics)Center of Excellence in Digital Forensics (CoEDF), Dr.S. Latha Assistant Professor & Secretary, Indian Society of Criminology, Department of Criminology, University of Madras.

In his address he shared his vast experience and insight on cybercrime, especially how women are being mislead in this digitalized world. He also stressed the importance of women to lead self respect and self disciplined life.Dr.R.Thilagaraj, Director (Academics)Center of Excellence in Digital Forensics (CoEDF) in his special address gave insightful and informative speech on various courses in criminology and forensic science. Dr.S. Latha Assistant Professor & Secretary, Indian Society of Criminology, Department of Criminology, University of Madras, in her theme Address Dr. S. Latha enlightened the students on Cyber victimology.
Mr. E.R.Ramesh Project Manager – Info Sec US Technology International Private Limited addressed the students on the Counterfeit on credit and debit cards. In the valedictory session Certificate were distributed by the Principal and Mr. E.R.Ramesh Project Manager – Info Sec US Technology International Private Limited to all participants as a token of appreciation.
The Tamil department of Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for Women conducted Bharathiyar Vizha on 2.1.2016. Members of the youth movement "Yuva Shakthi" presented programmes in different modes to impress the students and make them absorb the essential concepts of Bharathiyar’s poetical messages. Special address with PPT, singing of Bharathiyar’s songs, monoact, dance and skit were the various programmes performed by the vibrant members of the team to motivate the young minds. The overall theme connecting all these was –The actualization of Bharathiyar’s thought concepts in the present scenario.
Dr. Ikeda’s birthday, honoured as Global Harmony Day was marked with a special social service- blood donation camp. Nearly 150 donors including staff and students became voluntary participants of this noble service. Doctors Pratheep Kumar and Umesh addressed the students on the greatness of blood donation.
The department of business Administration organized a workshop on “Women Entrepreneurship and awareness on unethical upshots in business” on 29.01.16. Ms. R.R.Sandhya, Sandy’s Creation Jewellary and D’lite by Sandys, a young women entrepreneur was the guest speaker for the first session and Ms. R. Tamil Chudar, Chudar Eye care was the speaker for the second session. Ms. R.R.Sandhya, addressed the students on Women Entrepreneurship by sharing her own experiences on starting up the business, the practical difficulties and the ways to overcome them. Then she interacted with the students about their ideas on developing their carrier. She gave them exercises like preparing a skit on the spot by giving them different situations. The session was very interesting and interactive by involving all the students to exhibit their talents. The second session started with the welcome address by Ms. M. Kavitha, Asst Prof. Dept of BBA. Ms. R. Tamilchudar, Eye Care in the second session explained the importance of women starting their own business and the various methods of business tactics, dealing with different types of customers, understanding their psychology etc. The session was a power point presentation and it was a very eye-opening one. Then the students of department of BBA prepared and explained the unethical upshots of business world with case studies. There were more than 15 presentations and all the students from the college were invited to see the presentations. The valedictory function was addressed by the Principal Dr. V. Renuka Devi and certificates were distributed for the students who presented charts. The session ended with the proposal of vote of thanks by Ms. P. BhavaniMuthu, Asst. Prof, Dept of BBA.
A state level workshop on Clinical Diagnosis and Evaluation of Leukemia was held on 9th January 2016 by the Department of Biochemistry of Soka Ikeda College of Arts & Science for Women in association with The Stannis Institute of Paramedical Sciences, Porur. Nearly 120 students from various colleges from in and around Chennai were benefitted by the workshop. Dr. R. Vijayalakshmi from Preventive Oncology Department of Cancer Institute, Chennai and Dr. N.V. Hemamalini, Medical Officer in-charge of Saveetha Medical College, Chennai were the guests for the inauguration and valedictory session. The Chief Guest Dr. R. Vijayalakshmi delivered a lecture on the various types of leukemia, diagnosis and treatment procedures. She also picturised leukemia as a curable disease, when treated at an early stage. She focussed on bone marrow aspiration and stem cell therapy for cancer treatment. The students were also given hands on training on peripheral smear preparation and identification of leukemia cells by highly qualified practioners from Stannis Institute of Paramedical Sciences. The valedictory session commenced with lecture by Dr. N.V. Hemamalini on peripheral smear preparation, morphological difference between normal and onco cells. She also highlighted on Hodgkins disease, myeloid leukemia, Auer rods and so on. Certificates were distributed to all the participants. The program came to an end with the College song.

The department of BCA conducted a workshop on Robotics for 200 students in the college auditorium on 01.10.2015. Mr.Javeed Ashraf and his team members from Jay Robotics Club presented the seminar session. Jay Robotics Club, an innovative Robotics training and education company in Chennai aims in providing robotics training to everyone, who has a wide interest in developing their own application oriented robotics. Mr.Javeed Ashraf , explained the history of robotics, its uses and its importance in all fields. He also discussed about various types of robots such as Industrial robots, Hobby robots, Surgical robots, Unmanned robots, Military robots with videos and demonstrated few sensor robots, which helped the students to understand about robotics very effectively. Various video slides were shown to explain the uses of different kinds of robots, which made the session lively. The resource person from Jay Robotics taught the students to create robots and to execute it. They also created mobile controlled robots. Students enthusiastically participated in the practical session and had a clear idea on robotics.
The department of commerce inaugurated its association PEPCOM 2015 on 26th September 2015.Mrs.V.Sujatha, Head of the department welcomed the chief guest Mr.I.A.S.Balamurugan B.E.,M.B.A. Annual report was presented by Mrs.T.Jeeeva, Asst.Prof.department of commerce. . The chief guest in his speech pointed out that the best place for investment and finance is India and about Jan Dhan Yojana program of opening accounts which gives best security for the people in case of natural calamity.To help self employed people for easy mobilization of funds in the villages, government has initiated the intermediateries like banking correspondents like post masters as nodal masters in the village.He said that basic English knowledge and simple mathematical abilities will enable them to land in good job opportunities. He spoke about the Mudra bank, an initiative taken by the government to lend 120 crores of money to people who want to start a business before March 2016 is highly laudable and also highlighted that all unorganized sectors are becoming organized sectors.
Our college Health Club conducted three days Eye Camp from 14.09.2015 to 16.09.2015. The team of Ophthalmologists from Chudar Eye Care conducted the eye screening to our college students (shift I & shift II), staff and non teaching staff. Digital machines and lens to detect the power accurately were used. Prescriptions were handed over to students who were in need of correction and spectacles. The numbers of beneficiaries are 1550 Students, 65 staff members and 6 non teaching staffs. 549 students were identified eye problem and referred to the clinic. Early detection would prevent further damages to eyes. This event came to an end on 16th September 2015.

An awareness programme on LIFE STYLE & CANCER was organised by the Health Club on 11th September 2015. Mr. T.K. Srinivasan, Retired Professor of Nandhanan Arts and Science College, Mrs Origanti, CANSTOP Volunteer & Ms. Jayashree, Medical Social Worker were the guests. Mr T.K. Srinivasan presented a PPT on symptoms and causes of Cancer, contents of cigarettes and ways of prevention from cancer. An interactive session was also done with students and ways to lead a healthy life by consuming healthy food was insisted. Mrs Origanti spoke on Breast cancer facts and methods, ways of early detection of breast cancer. Ms Jayashree spoke on self breast examination, diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer. The session came to an end with the college song.
The Induction Ceremony of the 16th Batch of students, Inauguration of New Courses – B.A. Economics, M.A. English, M.Sc. Mathematics and Center for Women studies along with the Inauguration of College Union & Installation of Office Bearers was grandly observed on 22.08.2015 in the college auditorium. The Chief Guest was "Senthamizh Paadini" Paavalar. Manimekalai Kuppusamy, Grand Daughter of Puratchi Kavingar Paavendhar Bharathidasan. She spoke on the discernment which education provides for the students. Dr.Akash K.Ouchi, Indian Representative of Soka Gakkai International read the felicitation message sent by Dr.Daisaku Ikeda for the 16th Batch of students and wished them to create an ideal human society. College Secretary Mrs. Kogilam Kumanan sweared in the College Union members and office bearers. With wishes from all the dignitaries present in the function, the programme became a momentous event in the college history.
The Inauguration of Soka Tamil Association took place on 18.08.2015 in Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for Women. Dr.K.Balaraman, Professor in the Department of Tamil of Government Arts College (Men) , Nandanam, Chennai was the Chief Guest of the inaugural function. In this inaugural speech, Dr.K.Balaraman, spoke about the information related to astronomy, present in ancient Tamil Literature and compared it with the recent findings of scientists. He quoted poetical lines from Tamil Literature of Sangam era and gave a vivid power point presentation to enhance his lecture.
The 69th Independence Day Celebration was observed with austere recognition in Soka Ikeda College of Arts & Science for Women in the morning of Independence Day, 15.08.2015 at 08.00 A.M. in the college premises. The National flag was hoisted at 07.45 A.M by the chief guest Dr. Malini Chandrasekaran, Founder & Member of Indian Medical Association, Quatar Chapter & Honorary Medical Director of Anandham Medical Care Centre, Chennai. In her special address, she spoke on the role played by women who raised up their children to fight for the Nation's liberation. Pointing them as examples, she encouraged the students to come up with constructive ideas for the fruition of Indian’s identity as a "Super power" by the year 2020. The special guest also spoke in line with his words and mentioned the essential ideals of a peaceful life as Sathya, Dharma, Shanthi, Prema and Ahimsa. The function ended up with the gathering's singing of National Anthem.
Department of Tamil Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for Women introduced course in Kambaramayanam studies and the inauguration of course to place on 13.08.2015 in the college Auditorium. The founder of Kamban Kazhagam Thiru. M.P.Arunachalam, Chairman Thiru. Pazha Pazhaniappen and Board Member of the Kazhagam, Pulavar. Devadass were special guest of the function. They spoke about importance of Kambaramayanam and stated that today's youth should come forward to learn it eagerly. The other dignitaries present in the function were Dr.V. Renuka Devi, the Principal, Ms.S.Kanmani, Head of the Department of Tamil, Secretary of Kamban Kazhagam, V.Subramanian, Treasurer of Kampan Kazhagam Pulavar. Alamelu and member of Kampan Kazhagam Mrs. Valliammai.
The department of Mathematics arranged a guest lecture on Vedic mathematics for the students. Mrs. Priya of Aksh Educational Academy gave a demo on how to solve problems easily using Vedic maths. Mrs. Priya distributed a test sheet to the students which had questions on multiplication, division, addition and subtraction. Thirty minutes time was given to the students to solve the problems.Mrs. Priya then illustrated how to solve the problems in easy way using the concept of Vedic maths. After a detailed discussion an interaction was held for the students to clarify their queries.
Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for Women and Sethu Valiammal Educational Trust conferred "Life Time Achievement Award" on Dr. Muthusami Kumaran for his commendable services to the NGO sector, on 05.08.2015 in the college auditorium. The chief guest who honoured and presented the award to Dr. Muthusami Kumaran was the vice consul of US consulate, Chennai, Mr. Paul Hanna. Special guest was Dr. Leela Kumaran STEM GRANTS co-ordinator of the University of Florida, USA. A team of eighteen students from Florida University participated the function. The Five NGO's representing various areas of Social Charity Trust, were honoured. Another momentous event in the history of the college academics is the inauguration of the PG course - MSW(Master of Social Work). The noon session comprised of cultural entertainments presented by the college students and that of the Florida University students.
The Department of Computer Applications arranged a seminar on the subject "Animation" on 03.08.2015 at College Auditorium. Mr.T.Karthikeyan, Technical Head and Mr.V.Vikram, Business development executive, Image creative education were the resource persons for the seminar. Mr.T.Karthikeyan started his seminar talking about different types of files, difference between visual effects, computer graphics and live actions and the technology applied on it. It was informative to know about various kinds of movies produced in the yesteryears and at present. He also gave an elaborate talk on the technological advances in movie making process, its cost, production and other details. He also showed various short films created by his team and explained the techniques and duration for the creation. The seminar was useful for the students to acquire knowledge on animation arena. The students were made aware of latest technologies used in Graphics. The seminar provides the students with the mechanical and technical knowledge of designing and creating movies. The program came to an end with vote of thanks by Ms.Gajalakshmi of II BCA.
Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for Women celebrated its Library day function as Toshokan Day on 31.07.2015. The chief guest who made a special address was “Ezhuthu Selvar” Dr. Lena Tamilvanan, renowned writer and publisher. Competitions in view of this celebration were conducted on 15.07.2015 and students were given prizes on Toshokan day.

A condolence meeting for Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was held in the Soka Ikeda College of Arts & Science for Women from 10.00 A.M. - 10.45 A.M. on 29.07.2015. As a means of paying homage to his great soul, staff and students came forward with his invaluable sayings and immeasurable deeds reckoning him as the Nation's great scientist, leader and above all as the epitome of success and simplicity.
The Department of Computer Applications inaugurated the Diploma course in Web Designing for the students on 27.07.2015. The Department signed a MOU with Kenny Software Solutions Ltd. During the inauguration function, Principal appreciated the students for joining the course. She also encouraged the students to join various course apart from their degree course to enhance themselves and face the challenging world. Mr. Sudharsan, Manager, Kenny Software Solution, in his address he said that this course educates the students to become a creative designer and also about the other elements that are required for designing a modern website. He also advised to brush up knowledge from time to time through the online courses.
The Final year students of Biochemistry Department along with two staff members visited HEXAGON NUTRITION (Exports) Pvt.Ltd, Mepz, Tambaram on 25th July, 2015. The main processes done in the industry are Food fortification, Clinical nutrition and Animal nutrition. The students visited the Quality control lab which contains stability chamber in which the stability of the finished product is checked. Then in the chemical lab the students were given information about Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS) which is used to analyse minerals and HPLC (high performance liquid chromatography) used to analyse vitamins. In the microbiology lab they test for pathogens presence in the food sample. Mainly they test for E.coli, Salmonella and Staphylococcus. The students then visited the production area where they were provided with aprons, shoe cover, head cap, and face mask. Without these precautions no one is allowed there. The main process in the production area is sieving and blending. The raw materials of vitamins and minerals are first sieved and blended in the blender. They produce premixes from 1g sachet to 500kg. It was a very informative trip for the students. The students gained valuable information about various Biochemical Techniques with special mention to AAS and HPLC.
Pradhi Mahotsav, a talents meet for the fresher's of the academic year 2015-2016 was conducted on 23rd July 2015. Off-stage events like Calligraphy, Duppatta Designing, Sudoku, Mehandhi, Poem Writing, Art from Waste, Bridal Make-up, Face painting, pencil Art and Rangoli were conducted on 22nd July 2015. On 23rd July 2015, the on-stage events were conducted. The fresher's were addressed by the Principal, Dr. V. Renuka Devi. The students were actively participated in all the events. The overall runners for both off-stage and on-stage were the Department of BBA, the runners were the Department of English and the second runners were the Department of Mathematics.
Our student Ms.K.Priya of II B.A. English represented Madras University Athletic Team for the State Level Inter-University competition organized by Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu held at Dr. M. G.R Stadium, Madurai from 17.07.2015 to 19.07.2015 and won I place in 800 mts. Ms.R.Vaishnavi of I M.A. English represented Tamil Nadu Athletic Team for the senior level National Athletic Championship held on 12.07.2015 at Jawaharlal Nehru stadium and won Bronze medal in 4x400 mts relay. Ms.V.Ranjitha of II B.A. Tamil and Ms.M.Gomathimani of II B.C.A represented Madras University Football Team for the State level Inter-University competitions organized by Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu held at Dr. M.G.R Stadium, Madurai from 17.07.2015 to 19.07.2015 and won I place.
Our Students represented Chennai District Athletic Championship held on 14.07.2015 & 15.07.2015 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and brought various laurels to the college.

The Department of English started the functioning of a Department Library with collection of books consisting of language studies, fiction, critical studies, poetry collection and so on, on the 22nd of July 2015 named as "Illuminati", the library was declared open by the college Principal Dr. V. Renuka Devi at 11 a.m. in the English Department. The usage of this library would indeed illumine the readers' mainspring - Study of English Literature.
Students of English department actively participated in an interaction programme with Mr. Sky George and Mr. Jacob Speedy, students of University of Florida. The topics of discussion were of racial tensions, American history and Contemporary American Literature. Students came forth with questions which were answered and clarified by the guest speakers.
A 30 hours course on "Communicative English" was conducted for the students of English Department in the third week of March 2015. Mr. Vishal, trainer of Skills Enhancement Academy, was the resource person. Intense focus was made on the nuances of Spoken Skills to overcome taciturnity.
The B.Com (ISM) Department of 140 Students and 04 staff members went to Industrial Visit on 17th July 2015 to Modern Bakers Pvt.Ltd. The students had a power point presentation and oral presentation by the HR Executives Mr. RamPaul and Mr. Vinoth. Then followed by industrial visit where the students viewed the biscuits manufacturing with good quality. Both of them elaborately explained about their process and methods used in their company. There are about 80 kinds of products, 120 units across the world, 120 employees working in their unit, Parle-G gives all the raw materials but in their unit they do only preparing, baking and packing.
The Health Club of Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for Women organized a workshop on Women's Health on 16.07.2015. Dr. Jayashree M.S. DGO and Dr. S. Kanthamani M.B.B.S New Century Medical Centre was the speakers of the day. The guests insisted on the importance of health and prevention measures every person should adopt. They also spoke about the necessity of our Annual Medical checkup and its importance to prevent from diseases.
Chennai's Newgen Ball Badminton Club conducted its 2nd year All India Level Inter Collegiate and 3rd year State Level School Ball Badminton Tournament for Women in Association with Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for Women and Sethu Bhaskara Matric Hr. Sec. School on the 11th and 12th of July 2015. Sports Stars of thirty teams including Schools and Colleges participated in the tournament.
The two days Fresher's Sports Meet of Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for Women were conducted on the 8th and 9th of July 2015. The inaugural function began at 12.30 P.M. on 08.07.2015 with the Chief Guest Ms. Tasha Coppette, a nationally ranked body builder in the U.K.
The Department of Computer Science conducted a Guest Lecture on "Networking and its Applications" in association with "LIVEWIRE", Ambattur, Chennai on 08.07.2015. Resource Person Mr.Justin Jeba Jose, Senior Engineer, LIVEWIRE conducted the Lecture with introduction to networks. The main focus of the Lecture, the enhancement of learning, remains a challenge, particularly in networking. The Lecture successfully brought together a group of leading thinkers (Students) in order to determine new methods in networks.

The Department of Computer Science shift II organized a One day Workshop on "Work with Networking". The workshop was handled by the resource person Mr. Justin Jeba Jose, Senior Engineer, Livewire, Chennai. He explained the concepts on networking and emerging technologies on various fields such as networking, data sharing, network security methodologies, authentication protocols with power point presentations. Real time examples of data transferring using broadband modem, Wi-Fi data card were illustrated to our students. The students were divided into groups and each group was trained.

An awareness education programme on HIV/AIDS (Human Immuno Deficiency Virus Acquired Immuno Deficiency syndrome) was arranged to the final year students of Shift I between 11.50 am and 1.30 pm and Shift II between 2.00 pm and 3.30 pm on 01.07.2015 for the students of Soka Ikeda College of Arts & Science by the Students and Volunteers of University of Arizona & State University of Arizona, as two volunteers visited each classroom of Final year. They delivered sessions using charts and PowerPoint presentation to understand about the deadly disease that widely rampant in the humans today. They spoke about the various ways of transmitting the virus, methods to prevent it, the ways of transferring the virus from mother to the child, methods of preventive measures, Global Statistics,Timeline of HIV/AIDS, Chronic Manageable Diseases, HIV Lifecycle, Opportunistic infections, outbreaks etc. They gave various information about the immune system and the way it falls prey to the HIV/AIDS virus and mentioned web references for additional information.The visit was in alliance with the International Alliance for the Prevention of AIDS, accompanied with staff Mr.Arulraj Louis, Project co-ordiantoransMrs.Sheema, Field Officer, IAPA Chennai.
The Department of Biochemistry organized a Guest lecture for the students on 22nd June 2015 at 10.30.a.m.The Head of the Department Mrs. Meera Murugesh introduced the Guest Dr. Komal singh to the students. She belongs to the first batch of Biochemistry. She motivated the students to pursue higher studies and to do research work in the field of Lifescience. Research work needs complete dedication and she shared her research experience with the students. She explained about the various scholarships available for the students to study abroad .She said that if the students make use of this opportunity they can pursue their research work without any hindrance. She also spoke about recent advances in the field of Molecular biology & Genetic Engineering. In her speech she gave a brief description about DNA technology, Vectors, Polymerase Chain Reaction.
The fresher's day programme of Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for Women was made a momentous event of the academic year 2015 - 2016. The chief guest was Dr.Paul Pratap Jeyaraj, Director, Aachi Institute of Entrepreneurial Development, Chennai. He emotively spoke on the ultimate purpose of education as spreading smiles to the family and fellow beings of the society. The college Chairman, Principal and all the Board Members of the management spoke about the college which affords all facilities and about the professors who guide the students towards a promising future.
Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for Women conducted a workshop on Self Study Report to NAAC on 13.06.2015 in the college auditorium for its staff members. Dr. M. Selvam, M.Com, MBA., Ph.D , Chairman, School of Management, Professor & Head was the Chief Guest for the function. Principal Dr. V. Renuka Devi introduced the Chief Guest and stressed the importance of being accreditiated by NAAC and requested the staff members to make the best use of the expertise of the Chief Guest. Dr. Selvam enlightened the staff on the various aspects of assessment and accreditation. He explained SSR preparation requirements with the detailed PowerPoint presentation accompanied by an eloquent speech made his abundant knowledge available to the family.
